40-Hour HAZWOPER

This course is designed to meet the OSHA requirements for those individuals exposed to hazardous substances, health hazards, or safety hazards and their supervisors and management responsible for the site. The sites covered by this standard include various CERCLA, RCRA and other sites where uncontrolled hazardous waste exists or where hazardous substances or health hazards have been or have the potential to be released. Topics include: site characterization and communication of hazards to affected employees, work practices by which the employee risks can be minimized, medical surveillance requirements, contents of the site safety and health plan and personal protective equipment requirements. Extensive hands-on activities are an integral part of the course and allow each student to wear level B PPE and perform various simulated spill clean up and decontamination operations. A 75-question exam will be give at the conclusion of the course. Attendees in this course have included: environmental and safety consultants, environmental engineers and drilling technicians, property developers, demolition and excavation contractors, and individual involved in conducting environmental site assessments.

24-Hour HAZWOPER

This course is a shortened version of the 40-Hour HAZWOPER for persons on site only occasionally for a specific limited task and who are unlikely to be exposed over published exposure limits. Hands-on activities are included. Less emphasis is placed on level A & B PPE and more advanced spill containment activities.

Confined Space

OSHA's Permit Required Confined Space standard requires the employer to train the employees whose work is covered by the standard to safely perform their assigned duties. Therefore, training is required for authorized entrants, attendants, entry supervisors and rescue personnel. This standard is performance oriented and does not specify the hours of required training. However, depending on the current knowledge of these individuals, 4 - 8 hours of training should be sufficient. Those individuals, whose duties include rescue, must simulate a rescue scenario on an annual basis. PTA conducts customized Permit Required Confined Space Training for companies at their job sites or at our Training Center.

D.O.T. Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR)

Employers must ensure that employees involved in any aspect of hazardous material and hazardous waste transportation (hazmat employees) receive this required training. PTA prefers to conduct a customized version of this course for clients that discusses manifesting, packaging, labeling, marking, and placarding. Students learn how to use the Hazardous Materials Table and Emergency Response Guidebook. This customized training course can usually be completed in 4 - 8 hours depending on the extent of Hazmat related transportation.

RCRA Compliance

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations require waste accumulation managers and other employees to be trained. The standard specifically states that the generator "Ensure that all employees are thoroughly familiar with proper waste handling and emergency procedures, relevant to their responsibilities during normal facility operations and emergencies." In addition, anyone that could cause non-compliance at the facility must be trained. Depending on the generator's storage option, there may be requirements to establish a written training plan and annual refresher training. Most employees can attend 4-Hour training sessions to meet these requirements. PTA conducts customized RCRA Training for companies at their job sites or at our Training Center.
